Benash Sea Moss was born from a deep connection to the land and sea of Jamaica. Our founders grew up where sea moss wasn't just food -- it was medicine, tradition, and a way of life passed down through generations.

Every jar carries that heritage forward. We source our sea moss from the warm, pristine Caribbean waters where it grows wild on volcanic rock, absorbing over 92 minerals from the ocean. Hand-harvested, sun-dried, and prepared the way our grandmothers taught us.

What Is Sea Moss?

Sea moss refers to several types of red algae (seaweed) harvested from the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The most common species include Chondrus crispus (Irish moss), Gracilaria spp. (Jamaican sea moss), and Eucheuma cottonii.

These algae grow along the Atlantic coastlines of North America and Europe, as well as in warm waters of Asia, South America, and the Caribbean. Sea moss is roughly 55% mucilaginous polysaccharides (carrageenan), 10% protein, and 15% mineral matter.

When soaked and blended, sea moss forms a nutrient-rich gel that can hold 20-100 times its weight in water. This gel is the foundation of all Benash products -- added to smoothies, soups, and baked goods for a natural wellness boost.
